Photo tour with Lars Anker-Møller

DAY TO DAY ITINERARY 31-4 th of sept 2024

DAY 1 — Deep ice caves and splendid icebergs

You arrive in Kulusuk wherefrom your luggage will be transported directly to the boat. You and the other guests walk the approximately 1 km to the harbour. Here the boat driver will welcome you on board.

We will make a stop at the stunning glacier Aputsiaq where we will be met by a glacier guide. They will escort us to an astonishing 40 m deep ice cave. On our way back to Tasiilaq, we will find the time to photograph the majestic icebergs. After a good rest in Tasiilaq, we set off again at sunset where the light and colours are almost unreal and magical. At clear nights, we will also be able to capture the breathtaking Northern Lights.

DAY 2 — Ammassalik fjord and Ikasagtivaq fjord

The landscape of the Ammassalik district is exceptionally beautiful and is extraordinary for the entire arctic. Stunning lakes, huge and steep mountains, glorious waterfalls, green valleys, long rivers and massive glaciers adorn the region, and the area is largely uninhabited as well as breathtaking in its raw purity.

The boat tour starts at 9 a.m. from the harbour, wherefrom we will enjoy the cruise along the Ammassalik fjord. From here, we will head deep into the Ikasagtivaq fjord all the way to the settlement Tinitiqilaaq — commonly known as Tinit. In this charming community, we pause for a couple of hours and enjoy our lunch on the shore of the spectacular ice fjord, before we return to Tasiilaq.

You will then spend the night either at Arctic Dream.

DAY 3 — Knud Rasmussen Glacier

The Ikateq fjord connects Sermiligaaq and Kuummiut, and along this magnificent body of water you will find the abandoned American airbase founded shortly after World War II. When the Americans moved the military base to Kulusuk, they left everything behind which has created a noteworthy and extraordinary place. Throughout the years, a lot of souvenirs have been collected from the area, but this exceptional place is still worth a visit. Visually, this abandoned and rusty military station creates a remarkable contrast to the beautiful wilderness scenery surrounding it.

Sermiliqaq is charming small fishing settlement and is populated by approximately 220 inhabitants. The characteristic wooden houses in the village are tiny and colourful, and they give the village a very distinctive and cheerful appearance. In the bottom of the Ikateq fjord, about 20 km from Sermiliqaq, two gloriously striking glaciers — Knud Rasmussen glacier and Karale glacier — are located. Together with two other glaciers in the area, these amazing natural phenomena are sometimes called the worlds largest ice machine. Due to the glacial activity, the Sermiliqaq fjord is coloured with sediments, which gives it a distinctive milky blue color. The entire area is gorgeous and absolutely perfect for capturing spectacular photos.

We leave Tasiilaq at 9 a.m. and travel to the deserted settlement Ikateq. We explore the area and the unusual sight of the old American military base. From Ikateq, we sail towards the phenomenal Knud Rasmussen glacier and pause here for a couple of hours.

We return to Tasiilaq at 5 p.m., and once again you will spend the night at Arctic Dream

DAY 4The deserted settlement Ikateq and the Haan Glacier in Johan Pedersen fjord

On your last day in Tasiilaq, we turn our boat in the direction of Sermilik Icefjord and our first stop will be in the remote and deserted settlement Ikateq. We then continue to Johan Pedersen fjord and sail all the way up to the remarkable Haan glacier which is connected to the Greenland ice cap. As we approach the glacier, we will find an amazing spot and go ashore to enjoy our lunch and the glamorous scenery surrounding the glacier. On our way back, we will explore the various formed icebergs, and perhaps — if we are lucky — we might be blessed by whale sightings.

After our return to Tasiilaq, you will again spend your night at Arctic Dream.
