The first leg of our journey we travel by powerful snowmobiles from the town of Tasiilaq though the majestic mountains of Ammassalik island. After crossing the flat expanse of the King Oskar’s fjord ice, we navigate kilometres of occupied terrain, steep ascents and descents for approximately an hour until we reach our first rest stop, known locally as Kaffibaren. This is a small collection of three huts which is commonly used as a rest stop for the local hunters and mushers using this traditional route daily. On the contrary to what the name suggest, no coffee facilities exists here.

From here, we leave the traditional route to Sermilik Icefjord behind and ascend the steep hills to the foothills of the mighty Tinit Glacier. After a short photographic stop of the mighty glacier tongue we descend a long winding hill till we reach our access route onto the glacier. As we drive up on top of the glacier, the terrain largely chances with the huge expanse of the gently sloping glacier terrain we now ascend. All along the crossing of the Tinit glacier you will enjoy unrivalled views of the rugged peaks of the island, the Icefjord and the mighty Inlandsis in the distance. The Inlandsis is the second largest body of ice found on the planet only dwarfed by the Antarctic ice sheet. The Inlandsis cover about 85% of Greenlands surface area.

Descending the glacier on the north side, the small fishing and hunting settlement of Tiniteqilaaq comes into view. As we arrive to the settlement, on the shores of the Icefjord, we change our mode of transport to boat and enjoy a roundtrip in the fjord around the settlement. Your boat will be skippered by a local hunter with a vast knowledge of the area. Here you can photograph several ice bergs which has calved into the fjord from nearby outlet glaciers.

Coming back from the boat trip you will have time to explore the settlement on foot, observing and learning about the daily life as a hunter in East Greenland.

In the afternoon, we will once again mount the snowmobiles and start our return journey towards Tasiilaq. We will follow the same route as we came, and our journey will be made easier as we use the already made tracks from the morning. As we are following the traditional route between Tasiilaq and the settlement chances are high we will pass several local dog sled teams, providing a perfect opportunity for photographing the daily life and travel of the people of Ammassalik Island. As your professional driver concentrate on navigating the return journey, relax in the back and let the breathtaking scenery of East Greenland flow by.
